Introduction to Church of the Crossroads’

♫Music Scholarship Program♫

The Church of the Crossroads’ Music Scholarships were created to honor and carry on the work of persons who have nourished our community and enriched our worship services through gifts of their time and their music.  The awards help music students further their music education and give opportunities to present their gift in public, both as soloists and as participants in ensemble.

Music scholars offer musical leadership to the choir and provide the church community tangible returns for its monetary support of the scholarship program.  The scholars are featured in the FUNd-raising concert, A Gift of Love, given every other year, usually in early May, and contributions received help fund the awards.

The number of choir scholars is reaching toward 100 recipients (2009-2010).  Monetary awards now total over $95,000 since the music scholarship program was founded in 1980 by Don Conover and choir member Linda Rich.  The $1,000 grants help cover the costs of private lessons with a teacher of the recipient’s choice and provide a stipend for singing with the choir for up to two consecutive years.  Membership in this church or another is not required.

In return, Church of the Crossroads’ overall musical life and worship services are enriched by these very talented, creative and gracious folks.  Many of the scholars have been music majors and possessed solo-quality voices; however, applicants may come from any discipline, be of any age and be good choral singers, not necessarily soloists.  Many of our scholars have gone on to share their musical gifts as teachers and performers within the local community and throughout the world.                                    continued

Usually, four $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year, a soprano, an alto, a tenor and a bass or baritone.  Scholarships have been awarded for string bass, piano or organ accompanist and music assistant, as well.  If you or someone you know may be interested in applying for an award, please access the Scholarship Information pages, Application Blank and Recommendation Forms on this website.  If you have questions after checking these out, please contact minister of music Don Conover:
