Community Service

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Crossroads has a strong tradition of showing aloha through action. Current outreach includes:

  • Meals for the houseless: Every Saturday morning for over 40 years, teams of church volunteers have prepared meals for the Institute of Human Services (IHS), using healthy ingredients and tofu generously donated by Aloha Tofu.

  • Tutu Bert’s: Named after Father DuTeil’s wife Bertha, church volunteers cook or deliver a meal to the Tutu Bert’s house in Kalihi on the third Thursday of every month.

  • Cycle of Sharing: Volunteers collect household items and clothing, then periodically deliver them to the Waianae Assembly of God and Makaha Community Center for houseless families, or those in transitional housing.

  • Family Promise: Pre-pandemic, the church hosted houseless families four times a year for a week at a time on our campus, providing bedding, cooking dinners and acting as overnight hosts.

  • Mohala Farms: Crossroads member Mark Hamamoto farms six acres of land in Waialua, growing organic greens, herbs, limes, lemons, soybeans, kalo, lilikoi, and other healthy produce. A few times a year, members and church school youth help out on the farm, thatching the roof of their traditional Hale and learning how to cook with the harvested produce.
